The terrifying noises made by the raptors in Jurassic Park were sourced from recordings of tortoises mating. Gary Rydstrom, a Lucasfilm sound designer, says, “It’s somewhat embarrassing, but when the raptors bark at each other to communicate, it’s a tortoise having sex.”
